It may sound hard to believe — after what most can agree was a brutally hot summer — but fall is on its way. DeKalb County residents looking for a way to celebrate bearable weather outside again have a variety of options in north and middle DeKalb, including:

Taste of Brookhaven

The fifth annual Taste of Brookhaven is scheduled for Sept. 18 on the grounds of Oglethorpe University on Peachtree Road. The event includes samples from several restaurants in and around Brookhaven.

One such participating establishment is sweet shop and bakery Maison Robert. Run by the Reeb family, which has been in the chocolate business for four generations, Maison Robert should bring a little sweetness to the occasion.

“We have the best ingredients and everything is done by hand,” said proprietor Robert Reeb.

Other events include a silent auction and live music. Tickets are $40. Proceeds benefit the Brookhaven Arts Alliance.

Oglethorpe University is at 4484 Peachtree Road NE in Atlanta.

Decatur Garden Tour

The Decatur Garden Tour is a chance to celebrate the lush public and private gardens of Decatur before the showier plants go on winter break.

Ruth Cargo, a participant on the tour of 16 gardens, said she planted her garden during the 2007 drought with water conservation in mind.

“We really took a lot of care when we selected plants,” said Ms. Cargo.

The tour is scheduled for Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and 7 to 9 p.m. A Sunday tour is set for noon until 5 p.m. the following day.

Tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 the day of the tour. Will-call for tickets is at the Oakhurst Community Garden, located at 435 Oakview Road in Decatur.

Dunwoody Home Tour

The Dunwoody Woman’s Club is scheduled to host the 38th annual Dunwoody Home Tour on Oct. 6.

The tour includes four homes, which represent a range of designs from English country-style to a modern estate home. The tour is slated for 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. with design seminars held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the tour, with proceeds going to support Dunwoody Woman’s Club projects.

Oakhurst Arts and Music

The 13th annual Oakhurst Arts and Music Festival is scheduled for Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Harmony Park in Oakhurst.

The day is planned to include an artists’ market, featuring about 50 local artists, a 5K run and walk, live music, children’s activities, a parade and food from Oakhurst restaurants.

Stone Mountain Oktoberfest

A celebration of all things German, from traditional clothing and music to beer, bratwurst and pretzels, is scheduled for Oct. 9 and 10 on James B. Rivers Drive in the city of Stone Mountain.

Planned activities for the celebration, hosted by Main Street Stone Mountain, include costume and pretzel-eating contests, ribbon braiding, live music and more. Attendance and parking are free.
