DeKalb residents will soon have a place to see major musical acts without having to drive to downtown Atlanta.

This summer, Mudcatz Bar & Grill is relocating to the former Pavilion of Dunwoody Special Events Facility in an effort to book both classic rock and up-and-coming musical acts.

“We want to do more than just be a dinner place and a local music place,” Mudcatz Bar & Grill owner Shari O’Halloran said. “When the Pavilion of Dunwoody became available, it was a great opportunity to expand.”

Renovations on the 7,500-square-foot facility began in early April. Mudcatz is leasing the building from the Atlanta-based Simpson Organization Inc.

Ms. O’Halloran said she hopes to open in the new location by the first week of June.

With a stage, dance floor and capacity to hold between 300 and 400 people, Ms. O’Halloran said she wants to use the facility to bring major touring acts to Dunwoody.

She said she is working to book classic music acts like rock bands Molly Hatchet and Atlanta Rhythm Section, soul singer Clarence Carter and rhythm and blues singer Dobie Gray.

Ms. O’Halloran said tickets would range from $25 to $35 and be sold in the restaurant and online.

Mudcatz’ first confirmed act is R&B group The Coasters, who became popular in the late 1950s with songs like “Searchin’” and “Young Blood.” The show is set for Aug. 21.

“We want to bring great music right to people’s back yards,” Ms. O’Halloran said. “It will keep people from going downtown, plus it will bring people around Atlanta into Dunwoody.”

The move will triple the size of the year-old business, which is just a few feet from the Pavilion of Dunwoody in The Shoppes of Dunwoody shopping center on Chamblee-Dunwoody Road across from Dunwoody Village.

Mudcatz Bar & Grill Bar Manager Adam McCollum agreed.

“With the new venue, we hope it will triple attendance,” the Dunwoody resident said.

Mudcatz is currently housed in the former Corner Bar space, a 2,200-square-foot space.

The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner with a variety of menu items ranging from fresh seafood to hamburgers and chicken wings. Mudcatz specializes in Cajun cuisine.

Mudcatz Bar & Grill is at 5500 Chamblee-Dunwoody Road in Dunwoody.

atlantajazz.info

-" Jazz is thoughtful music and "Thinking Out Loud" speaks to this truth.

Allowing the resonance of the notes played to sink into the listener creates a

space that the entire CD will engage the listener into a cerebral experience...

I highly recommend this CD."
