Decatur student
on ‘Who’s Who’
honor listing

Claire W. Asbury of Decatur,, a senior at Davidson College, has been inducted into the Who’s Who national honors program. She is the daughter of Mackay and Nancy Asbury and is a 2006 graduate of Druid Hills High School.
Ms. Asbury is an English major.
“Who’s Who” is one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honors programs in the nation. Selections to “Who’s Who” are made each fall by individual schools by nominating committees composed of representatives from the faculty, administration and student body.
Nominees are selected based on their achievements in academic work, participation and leadership in college and extracurricular activities, and perception of future leadership ability.
Davidson College, located in Davidson, N.C., is a highly selective independent coeducational liberal arts college for 1,700 students.

Miami of Ohio
Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, named the following DeKalb residents to academic honors for the fall 2009 semester:
n Sara Page Thorpe of Atlanta-DeKalb, President’s List.
n Jillian Marie Hertzberg of Atlanta-DeKalb, Dean’s List.

Virginia Tech
The following Virginia Tech students from DeKalb County were among those honored at the university’s fall commencement.Graduates included:
n Travis Loya of Decatur, Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences.
n Katharine Suhr of Decatur, Bachelor of Science in Business degree cum laude in marketing management.
n Joseph Whipple of Atlanta-DeKalb, Bachelor of Science in Business degree in finance.

Colby College
Julia W. Duchon, a senior at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, was named to the dean’s list for her academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2009-10 year.
Ms. Duchon, daughter of Kip and Eugenia Duchon of Decatur, is an English major. She is a graduate of Decatur High School.
Students whose grade point averages were 3.6 or higher were named to the Dean’s List.
Founded in 1813, Colby College is the 12th-oldest independent liberal arts college in the nation. The college enrolls 1,850 students.

St. Mary’s-Maryland
Rachel Heather Waldron, a resident of Decatur, was awarded Dean’s List honors for academic achievement during the fall 2009 semester at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Dean’s List honors go to full-time students who earn a semester grade-point average of 3.5 or better on 12 or more graded credits.
Founded in 1840 as Maryland’s “monument school” commemorating the state’s first capital, St. Mary’s is the state’s only public honors college. More than 2,000 students attend the college, which has the highest graduation rate for all Maryland public colleges and universities, and an SAT average for student admissions of 1848.

Samford University
Courtney Marie George of Dunwoody was named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.
To qualify for the honor, a student must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework. The Dean’s List is the highest academic recognition given by the school at the end of each semester.

UNC Dean’s List
Rachel Louise Archambeau of Atlanta-DeKalb was named to the Dean’s List at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for the fall 2009 semester.
She is a journalism and mass communications major, and the daughter of Jason and Fern Archambeau.
Other DeKalb residents named to the Dean’s List at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for the fall 2009 semester included Daniel Alejandro Helena of Decatur, and Laura Catherine Ownbey of Tucker.
